Are organizations taking care of their records Management staff?

This is a question that has been asked by several employees especially in developing countries. despite the fact that Records management plays a crucial role in management and decision making of any Organization, the RM section and staff are not given due respect they deserve. Records management staff in most occassions lack adequate working tools, enough budget, are treated as if they are inferior to other members of staff and are often overlooked when it comes to trainings and other motivational issues that affect the organizations' staff.
it is heartbreaking as a records management staff to see other members of staff enjoying better terms and benefits than you and yet you work for the same organization.
As a leader in Records Management Unit, i feel extremely bad when your colleagues want you to intervene in matters relating to work and work environment yet you are unable to due to complexities and red tapes in management structures of organizations.
this is an issue which Records Managers and the organization's leadership need to address in order for the Records Management profession to be a profession of choice for many aspiring people.

Which is the best file arrangement system?

Records management is a complex profession where you are required to ensure proper file management for ease of retrieval. file management needs both good records management training as well as experience to be able to foresee the forthcoming problems and future advancements in terms of technology and the expansion of the organization. it is for this reason therefore that i propose that the best file management system that can be used can either be Alpha-numeric or purely numerical system. What do you think?

What is the role of a records Management Officer?

Different organizations have different roles for Records Management Officers. Personally, i have done several activities in the course of my duties that are not part of records management activities, but i do not regret it since i have realized that they make me a better person especially in performing my duties as a records professional.

What do you think. do you see other tasks assigned to you as improving your records management profession or hindering your progression?

Do you think there is a future in records management profession?

This is just one of the questions i keep asking myself every time i am doing my routine duties in this demanding profession. When i decided to pursue this profession, i knew i was going to meet more and more challenges especially those coming directly from other departments who do not appreciate the importance of records management.
even though i have encountered several professional drawbacks, i am still convinced that due to the changes in technology and the continued importance of managing paper records in all organizations coupled with  the increasing awareness to top management about the importance of maintaining proper records for every activity, there is surely a great future for records managers.
it is high time that professionals from every country form a professional organization to help themselves in marketing their profession as well as improving their skills through sharing of ideas.

What do you think, is there a future in records Management?
